Tania's Success Story

“My daughter Tania began OT at age 3 years," states Ms Perez. “At the beginning she was very restless and would not sit still more than a few seconds. She would not look at me or at others in the eye and did not tolerate being touched. Tania was accident prone and had very poor interaction with others, often hitting and biting. When trying to use her hands to stack blocks, cut, use a pencil or begin to dress herself, she could not do it."

"Now, at age 4 years, and having intensive OT and Speech at Health Success, she is very changed. She can sit and concentrate 10 to 15 minutes, she will look me in the eye, and is fine being touched. She can dress herself and is now potty trained. When she plays, she handles blocks, scissors and pencils normally and now is motivated, whereas before she did not demonstrate any motivation."

The secret of success according to her therapists was an aggressive “sensory diet” which means input to stimulate tactile, vestibular and proprioceptive systems. Joint compression and brushing were two important modalities used in her case.
